Linda Smith and Alan Austen perform mainly traditional and self-penned songs accompanied by melodeon, autoharp and a Kentish lute built by Alan. Alan has gained his love of traditional music from singers such as Johnny Doughty and the Copper Family. They appear regularly at clubs in Kent, south-east London and further afield, and are also residents at the Travellers Rest Folk Club at The Bell in Kemsing.
The Last Harvest, their second CD, is a celebration of the Kent countryside featuring seven of Alan’s own songs, some of which are based on fragments of songs which he has collected. The title track remembers Alan’s life growing up in rural Kent.
There are seven traditional songs plus Marks In The Grass, written by Ken Bryant about the plight of today’s Travellers and set to music by John Barden.
